How the hairstyle try on works
You upload a photograph, choose a cut, and a generative image model produces a new picture of you wearing it. The instruction it is given is narrow on purpose: change the hair, and leave the face, expression, skin tone, clothing and background exactly as they are. That is what makes the result recognisably you rather than a stranger with your haircut.
Nothing is measured or extracted from your face along the way. There is no face detection, no recognition, no template, and the photograph is deleted from our storage as soon as the render finishes or fails.
What makes a good photo
- Face the camera. A straight-on photo gives the model the most to work with; a steep angle gives it the least.
- Even light. Window light beats overhead light, which casts shadows across exactly the area being changed.
- Hairline visible. No hat, no hood, hair off the face.
- One person in frame. Groups confuse the result.
- Plain background if you can. Not essential, but it makes the edges cleaner.
Choosing a cut that will actually suit you
A render tells you what a shape looks like on your face. It cannot tell you whether your hair will hold it, and that is the part people are surprised by in the chair.
Two things decide that. The first is your hair's own behaviour: a blunt bob on fine straight hair falls differently from the same cut on dense curls, and a style that needs weight will collapse on hair that has none. The second is upkeep — a shape that needs styling every morning is a different commitment from one that dries into itself. If you are between two options, the two-minute hair test works out which of the two your hair is, and what a hair type chart does and does not tell you covers the rest.
After the render
Take the picture to your stylist rather than a photograph of someone else with the cut. It is the single most useful thing you can bring to an appointment: it shows the shape you want on the head it has to work on, which is a conversation that starts much closer to the answer.

What happens to my photo?
It is sent over an encrypted connection to the AI model that produces the new image, and it is deleted from our storage as soon as the render finishes or fails. No face detection or recognition is performed, nothing is extracted from your facial features, and the photo is never used to identify you or to train a model. Can I try it on a photo of someone else?
No. You confirm before uploading that the photo is of you or that you have the permission of the person in it, and uploading a picture of a public figure or of anyone who has not agreed to it breaches our terms. This is a tool for seeing a haircut on your own face — it is not a face swap and it cannot put your face on anyone else, or theirs on you.
What makes a good photo?
Face the camera in even light, with your hair off your face and nothing covering your hairline. A plain background helps. Photos taken from below, in hard shadow, or with a hat on give the model less to work with and the result shows it.
Will it look like me?
That is the whole point of the instruction the model is given: change the hair, leave the face, expression, skin tone, clothing and background alone. It is a preview rather than a photograph of the future — hair behaves differently in real life than in any render.
Can I try a hair colour too?
Colour try-on lives in the app for now. It runs entirely on your device there, which is why it is instant and why it has not made it to the web yet.
